Falconiformes, Dirunal Birds of Prey

fa;1888;97;em.

Goshawk (Accipiter gentilis). Red Squirrel (Tamiasciurus hudsonicus) and Skull (American Bison [B. bison bison])

A tableau of assemblage of a "Happy Family" (See the: "Red Fox and Rabbit vitrine # ___.) They hawk and squirrel seem to be getting along, altho perhaps there is an element of antagonism between them. Perhaps this is an Unhappy Family. The face of the rodent appears contorted, perhaps terrified, or indignant. The red squirrel is, perhaps, a later addition. Is the hawk resentful? If the Happy Family is happy in similar ways to other happy families, is the Unhappy Family unhappy in its own, unique, way?

The Goshawk specimen was previously considered a Peregrine Falcon and has been re-identified.
