Description of the Artifact

Hard rubber heel for new, or re-soled shoes. Found in the Interstate Tire Building, Railroad Row in White River Junction, Vermont in 2002-3. Both weather and chemical resistant, hard, or vulcanized, rubber soles are far more durable than leather or wood for use in climates that are seasonably cold and wet. (Hevea brasiliensis, the Pará rubber tree)
