In Wake Of Disaster, Vermonter Visits Family In Japan

Vermont Public Radio, Friday, 04/01/11 7:50am

Mitch Wertlieb

Some Vermonters with friends and family in Japan are anxiously following the news since the tragic earthquake and tsunami struck last month. Chiho Kaneko is one of them, and has a closer view than most. Kaneko makes her home in Hartland, Vermont, but is a native of Northern Japan. And she traveled there some 10 days after the earthquake hit to make sure her parents and the rest of her family were alright. We spoke with her from her parent's home in the town of Morioka. VPR's Mitch Wertlieb asked Chiho Kaneko if the stories Americans have been hearing about the stoicism and fortitude of the Japanese people in the wake of the disaster are accurate.
