Locations of the Papers

Papers transcribed here are letters, journals, were stored in a trunk of the belonging to R.W. Foote, containing "old family things," possessions of Ebenezer and Jerusha (Purdy) Foote, Charles A. and Maria (Baldwin) Foote, the Marvine and Maynard families of Delhi, New York and others, along with the genealogical papers of Catherine Adelia Foote, assembled by her in the early to mid-twentieth century.

There are also newspapers clippings and business receipts from Ebenezer Foote. Altho a number of papers and significant autographs connected to both Ebenezer and Charles Augustus Foote were sold at auction in the 1940s by Frances Maynard Ford and now reside in the Library of Congress, Washington D.C., a substantial amount of ms material remains with descendants of the family. Not surprisingly, the majority of the letters and other material deal with family subjects.

Letters

Letters still in family hands are, for the most part letters received, although there are exceptions. Rensselaer Foote's early letter detailing his expulsion from West Point, for instance was either a first draft or was simply never sent.

Undated Letters are here.
