Conrad Edmund Elmendorf
Biography
In Memory of Conrad Ed. Elmendorf, Esq.,
Counsellor at Law, born Sept. 12th, 1763, died 1st March, 1817, aged 53 years, 5 ms. 16 days. Son of Conrad Jacob Elmendorf and Catherine Hardenbergh—one of the leading members of the bar of Kingston after the close of the Revolution. We find him a member of [the New York State] Assembly 1794, 1800, and again in 1806. In 1796 Gov. Jay appointed him Assistant Attorney General for the district of Dutchess, Orange and Ulster, and in 1801 he became District Attorney of the Ulster, Delaware, Orange, &c. district. In 1802 he was an unsuccessful candidate for Congress. He was many years one of the Trustees of the old Kingston corporation, and his last public employment is believed to have been that of a Presidential elector in 1804. He married Catherine Tremper, who was born April 17th 1784—died Dec. 21, 1817, aged 83 years, 8 months, 8 days.
